Audition Dates:

  • Monday, July 7 – Auditions for Les, Dance-Only Roles & Non-Singing Ensemble

    • Seeking 1-2 actors to play Les for the run of the show

    • Casting two children (any gender, ages 9-11) for the ensemble

    • Holding auditions for 2-6 non-singing dancing roles to be cast in the ensemble (dancers must be 16+)

    • Children and non-singing dancers auditioning will only audition Monday, with potential callbacks on Thursday, July 10

  • Tuesday-Wednesday, July 8-9 – General Auditions for All Roles (ages 16 and up)

  • Thursday, July 10 – Possible Callbacks, including vocal callbacks for select roles

  • Friday, July 11 – Principal Read-Through & Ensemble Character/Historical Workshop

Audition Details:
Prepare a 45-second vocal selection and participate in a cold dance audition. If you have acrobatic abilities, we would love to see them.

Everyone will participate in a cold reading from the script, which will be provided at auditions.

Jack Kelly - Character Age: 18-28 | Gender: M | Vocal Range: B-flat2 - A4
Charismatic leader of the Manhattan newsies, orphan, artist, dreams of moving out West. Loyal, tough exterior with a big heart, leads the resistance for better working conditions. Strong tenor voice and sense of physicality.

Katherine Plumber - Character Age: 18-28 | Gender: F | Vocal Range: A3 - F5
Feisty, ambitious young reporter fighting for credibility in a male-dominated field. Quick, funny, resourceful—captures the voice of a rising generation. High belt vocals.

Joseph Pulitzer - Character Age: 40+ | Gender: M | Vocal Range: C3 - F4
No-nonsense businessman, owner of The World newspaper.

Medda Larkin - Character Age: 40+ | Gender: F | Vocal Range: F3 - A5
Vaudeville star and owner of the Bowery Theater, saloon singer. Offers her theater as a safe haven for the newsies, comedic and strong-willed.

Davey Jacobs - Character Age: 16-28 | Gender: M | Vocal Range: D3 - A4
Straight-laced, bright older sibling to Les. Starts selling papers to support their family, becomes a leader in the strike.

Les Jacobs - Character Age: 10 | Gender: M | Vocal Range: D-flat4 - B-flat4
Fearless, cheeky younger sibling to Davey. Precocious, charismatic, learns from the freedom of the newsies.

Crutchie - Character Age: 16-24 | Gender: Any | Vocal Range: C3 - A4
Dedicated newsie with a limp, walks with a crutch. Goofy and resilient, the heart of the resistance.

Pulitzer’s practical and insightful secretary. Strong character actor role.

Crooked warden of The Refuge, a filthy orphanage used to exploit children for government funding.

  • Nunzio – Pulitzer’s barber.

Darcy / Bill (Doubles as Newsies) - Character Age: 17-24 | Gender: Any

  • Darcy – Upper-class child of a publisher, sides with the Newsies. Doubles as a Newsie.

  • Bill – Child of William Randolph Hearst, also sides with the Newsies. Doubles as a Newsie.
